Alvaro Alvarez is an artist working in paint and pencil on paper. Within the composition, there is often an interesting juxtaposition between the painstakingly deliberate and the chance happening, the soft, floating patches of colour wild in their placement yet deliberate in their mark. The fine brushwork and feathery lines of the pencil push and pull across the paper, resulting in works humming with energy. Alvarez has worked in the studio at Arts Project Australia since 2000 and presented his first solo exhibition Alvaro Going Solo in 2005. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions including, Melbourne Art Fair, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, 2002-2012 and Pearls of Arts Project Australia: The Stuart Purves Collection, National touring exhibition, 2007-2009. Public collections include the National Gallery of Australia. His work is also held in national and international private and corporate collections.
